C.S. SAUER SIGNS ON TO SPONSOR DUKE’S MAYONNAISE SOAP BOX DERBY

Richmond, Va. – April 25, 2006 – The C.F. Sauer Company today announced a three-year deal to be the presenting sponsor of the All American Soap Box Derby race held each summer in Richmond, Va. During the sponsorship term, the race will be renamed the “Duke’s Mayonnaise Soap Box Derby”.

The All American Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program open to boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 15, which has run nationally since 1934. World Championship finals are held each July at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio. Richmond’s All American Soap Box Derby has been around since the 1950s and is one of over 200 races held annually in 44 states and four countries. The 2006 Duke’s Mayonnaise Soap Box Derby will be held on Saturday, June 3 at the Richmond International Raceway, known for hosting NASCAR and Indy Car races. Races will be held in two classes, stock and super stock. The two local champions will go to Akron to compete in the World Championship.

J.R. Downey, race director, commented, “The support of the C.F. Sauer Company not only unites two strong Richmond traditions but will enable us to meet our goal of providing the youth of the city with an opportunity to participate in one of the area’s premier sporting events.”

Although the local race has been operated under the auspices of several groups during its history, a group of local Soap Box Derby supporters formed the Richmond Soap Box Derby Foundation, Inc. in 2003 to raise tax-deductible support to create a permanent Race Committee to oversee race operations and seek additional funding to foster growth of the community event.
